Islampur College – Siliguri which started its journey towards academic excellence on and from 4th December 1973, has developed as a prominent and well - equipped academic Institution in Islampur Subdivision. Islampur College – Siliguri was established by local initiative of persons interested in education and by public donations. It is one of the fruitful outcome of the dream of the entire population of the region. After partition and Independence Islampur was under Purnia district of Bihar State. According to Indian Transfer and Territories Act of 1956, the area was transferred from Bihar and a new Sub-division under the then West. Dinajpur district of West Bengal came into being. Since then Islampur gained importance both strategically and economically though the mainstay of the life of the people by and large is agriculture.
Islampur College – Siliguri was established to provide opportunity of higher education to the youths of the region comprising mostly of schedule caste, schedule tribe. Islampur College – Siliguri is situated at Ajitbas Colony on the Islalmpur - Siliguri 31 National Highway. The College campus with its imposing two Buildings viz, Humanities building and Science building, Boys Hostel and spacious green fields presents a unique view.
At present, Islampur College – Siliguri has flourished as a full-fledged degree College with all the three streams of education viz, Arts, Commerce and Science. Now, the College offers general courses in all streams. Honors Courses are offered in six arts subjects i.e. History, Pol-Science, Bengali, English, Philosophy, Urdu, Geography and Accountancy and Mathematics in Commerce and Science respectively. Students from the entire Sub-divison and even from the adjoining Kishanganj and Purnia districts of Bihar and also from Darjeeling district of West Bengal are found getting admissions regularly in the College.
Islampur College – Siliguri is spreading education and Knowledge among the Students irrespective of caste, creed and religion. We have library with reading room, which can accommodate adequate students. The library adequately equipped with books covering wide range of disciplines of academic and non-academic interest.
Islampur College – Siliguri has its own Students’ Hostel for S.C./S.T. students only with a capacity of 20 seats. S.C./S.T. Students seeking admission in the hostel are required to contact with the Hostel Superintendent as appointed by the college authority from amongst the teachers of the college. Islampur College – Siliguri has well equipped laboratories of Physics, Chemistry and Geography. The College also takes care to develop moral values, Physical and cultural excellences among the students through its N. C .C, N. S .S. and other regular Co-curricular activities.
