True to its mission statement, the college has risen to even greater heights with a brilliant track record. With a student strength of 200 at the time of its establishment 53 years ago, the college today imparts higher education to approximate 2500 students. It is considered a matter of prestige to get admission in this college because of our outstanding standards of teaching, very high cut-off percentage in Science and Commerce streams, nearly cent percent result in all streams and the initiatives to make higher education more meaningful. In recognition of its achievements, the UGC and the State Government granted autonomy to the College in 1995-1996.

Strengthened by the benefits of autonomy and commendably supported by the Janbhagidari Samiti, the College has expended its resources productivity and has ensured their optimal use. Teaching-learning through modern aids and techniques, qualitatively restructuring of syllabi in accordance with the UGC curriculum, vocational and job-oriented courses, campus interviews, semester system, effective use of Guardian-Tutor Scheme, efficient Autonomous Examination Cell are some of the striking achievements of autonomy. The college also boasts of effective NSS and NCC units. Being sensitive and alert to discharge the responsibility of maintaining high standards, constant attempts are being made to strengthen each unit through Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).

Swami Vivekanand Career Guidence cell of the college organises campus placement, interviews for the students and special counselling cell is also setup for proper guidance to students at the time of admissions.

College Shahdol since 1974 as a part of the academic programmes and since then NSS has been functioning as a regular feature in the realm of our Collegiate education. The overall objective of the scheme is educational and service to the community is the activity through which the objective is sought to be achieved. It is a student-centered programme in which projects are implemented by the NSS volunteers in the community in close collaboration with the clientele community and thereby it provides vast scope for the students' interaction with the people. N.C.C. is one the noble organization. The N.C.C. started in 1963 in Aus Institution. The history & present performance of N. C. C. is full of achievements. At present 106 Cadets are enrolled in college. Lt. Amit Nigam is the N.C.C. Officer of the institution.
