Shri Makhanlal Chaturvedi Government College – Hoshangabad was established on the 3rd September 1984 at Babai to impart education at the graduate and post graduate ( Self Finance) level in this area. It has been named after Pandit Makhanlal Chaturvedi, an ace poet, writer and journalists of Madhya Pradesh who acquired nation-wide renown not only for the excellence of literary creativity and might of his pen, but also for his undaunted participation in the national struggle for freedom of India. Babai is the birthplace of Pandit Makhanlal Ji.
Shri Makhanlal Chaturvedi Government College – Hoshangabad is situated on Pipariya Road, at Kothariya Gram, Babai, District-Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh State. The College has a beautiful scenic campus of three acres. Shri Makhanlal Chaturvedi Government College – Hoshangabad imparts instruction to nearly 450 undergraduate and post¬graduate (Self Finance) students in commerce, art. it has well-equipped laboratory, a library having a collection of over 9,300 books.
The library plays a central role in helping college achieve its mission of providing students a quality education. Beyond its immediate responsibility to provide the information services and resources that support the courses of study offered at the college, the library has the broader mission of fostering in our students the importance and necessity of lifelong learning. Shri Makhanlal Chaturvedi Government College – Hoshangabad library adequately equipped with books covering wide range of disciplines of academic and non-academic interest. The college also subscribes for international and national journals, periodicals and newspapers for the students and faculty members at the college library. Sports playground and facilities are available for Badminton, Basket-Ball, Volley-Ball, Kho-Kho and Kabbaddi etc for students. Facilities are also available for athletics tournaments.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is available in Shri Makhanlal Chaturvedi Government College – Hoshangabad since 1996-97 academic year. In this scheme a special camp of ten days duration is organized for students. Students of this college was selected at the state level and at the University level in the academic year 2004-05 and 2005-06. Regular programme are organised in this scheme at "Gokul Gram", "Nirmal Gram" and at the "Adopted Gram" in the area.
