North Gauhati College – Kamrup was inaugurated by Devakanta Baruah, the then Education Minister of Assam in the premises of the Auni Ati Kamaldev Institution on the 4th September, 1962 as a co-educational institute of collegiate education and the foundation stone at the permanent site was laid by him on the 24th November, 1963. North Gauhati College – Kamrup is one of the oldest institution of higher learning is located at North Guwahati. At the initial stage, North Gauhati College – Kamrup started functioning from the Auni Ati Kamaldev Institution. On the 9th December, 1966 the whole functions of the college were shifted to its own building at its present site. Mr. Kukil Bezbaruah was the founder Principal of the college for a brief stint while Mr. Manindra Kumar Baruah was the full time permanent principal under whose leadership, the college became a full fledged instution. North Gauhati College – Kamrup offers different kind of degree courses.
Since its inception, North Gauhati College – Kamrup has been imparting higher education to a vast population extending from North Guwahati to Rangia and Nalbari in the west, Mangaldoi in the east and Guwahati in the south with the help of dedicated and qualified teachers. They have contributed a lot towards making it a premier institute of higher education.
North Gauhati College – Kamrup is situated at North Gauhati Via. Amingaon Pin – Dist. Kamrup , Assam. The college has a big campus of approximately 33 Bighas of Land. Inside the campus there are a playground, two piscicultural tanks, a botanical garden, a canteen and the college buildings including a big auditorium. Location of its in a rural environment helps in prevailing a homely and pollution free atmosphere in the college.
North Gauhati College – Kamrup central library is located in the Arts block. The library building has been provided with all facilities including reading rooms for boys & girls and also teachers. It is stocked with more then 12,000 text books, reference books, news papers, journals etc. The computer workstation cum training centre is on the first floor of the library building. The centre, constructed and installed with the financial assistance form the IOC, Digboi through LPG Bottling Plant, North Gauhati , offers certificate courses of varying duration on basic computer knowledge. The centre provides internet Service to the learners.
There are separate common rooms for boys and girls. The Alumni Association of North Gauhati College – Kamrup has taken up this project for implementation as a mark of their sincere gesture and love for the alma-mater. All science laboratories except Geography and Anthropology are located in the Science block. Social Science Bhawan in the Arts block accommodates the Geography and Anthropology laboratories. Laboratories are well equipped and almost all required amenities are available.
Sufficient numbers of classrooms are available in North Gauhati College – Kamrup. All classrooms are spacious and having all required amenities. Classes of the Arts stream include Geography and Anthropology are held in separate building called Social Science Bhawan along with the Arts block. Science classes are held in Science block. The college canteen remains open from 8 AM to 6 PM. The canteen committee of the college selects a contractor form time to time to run the canteen. It also supervise the activities of the canteen. The college has specious auditorium with sitting capacity of thousand people.
North Gauhati College – Kamrup has NSS cell also. A candidate can enroll as a volunteer by filling up the required form available with the programme officer of the college. The College has N.C.C. units for both boys and girls in separate wings. A candidate can enroll as a cadet after filling up the required forms form the teacher in-charge concerned. There is a Career Guidance Cell in the college. The Cell regularly organizes career counseling meet and give the students exposure to the career options available in different areas.
