Govt Arts and Commerce College – Sagar came in to its existence in the year 1983 with students enrolled 55 only, since then, it has grown in size and contents to take the present shape. At present college is running in it's own Building near Tili Town, Sagar. Govt Arts and Commerce College – Sagar is an institution which is catering to the needs of undergraduate students in all faculties and also conducting post graduate classes. It has been our continous endaevour to provide equal educational opportunities for the weaker sections of the society particularly the SC/ST and OBCs. To meet this goal, our basic requirement is to make improvement in our taching learning process as well as sports facilities by upgrading basic infrastructure like library, laboratories, classrooms and sports. It is our firm determination to improve our standards through modernization and rationalization of courses and to relate the undergraduate courses in social science, science and commerce to career opportunities. The present strength of our college is 1569.
Govt Arts and Commerce College – Sagar is situated at Shivalaya, Tilli Road, Sagar (M.P.). Govt Arts and Commerce College – Sagar offers different kind of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. It is our utmost need to expand and consolidate the existing facilities, so as to provide ample opportunities to students to opt for the best suitable course in accordence with their interest and capacity. Out of the total strenght of 1569 students, more than 50% belong to SC/ST/OBC/Minorities and economically deprived sections. The basic infrastructure of Govt Arts and Commerce College – Sagar including books, journals, scientific labs and equipments, campus development, sports facilities, teaching aids, basic aminities needs to be strengthened. Basic facilities for women like girls common room, canteen, toilet and GYMNASIUM are yet to be provided.
Govt Arts and Commerce College – Sagar is included under section 2(F) and 12(B) of the UGC act 1956 and fulfills the eligibility conditions for the general development grant of UGC. The college has 18 permanent, a sports officer and a well qualified librarian. The college runs three faculties including science, arts and commerce. Govt Arts and Commerce College – Sagar library has a modest start in 1983 in a small room of a rental house. The present library is housed in a big hall. The library beside having a big collection of above 15000 books on Humanities and Commerce collection also include a large section of expensive reference books, A large number of Text Books collection meant to cater for the courses running in the collage and a collection of books ear marked for SC/ST students. Library is well equipped with modern Electronic equipments and resources as xerox available for the use by faculty members, computers for the use by students for searching books and a overhand projector for the use of the faculty members. To cater all these, Govt Arts and Commerce College – Sagar runs the following activities in sports: In indoor games students are provided Chess, Badminton, table tennis. In outdoor Games students take part in Kabaddi, Kho-kho, Cricket, volleyball, football, athletics and handball.
Govt Arts and Commerce College – Sagar has sufficient space for the installation of fitness instruments required for GYMNASIUM. We also have Basket Ball and Table Tennis Courts in our premises. The inclusion of GYMNASIUM in this college will provide oppurtunities for the all round development of our students. A definite guidance for career selection makes the education significant and life successful. Career counseling gives understanding for all type of career, business concepts which his necessary for a healthy business attitude. For the students of school and college level MP Govt. Higher Education department has started “Swami Vivekanand Career Counseling Programme”.
