She was born on January 16, 1950 in Houston, Texas, U.S. Debbie Allen's career started as a theater artist in the late 1970's. She came into limelight in 1980 when she featured in the West Side Story, wining the Drama Desk Award for her role. Debbie Allen has also featured in movies like Amistad (1997), Fame (2009 film), Blank Check, Next Day Air, The Twist etc. Debbie Allen has been felicitated with many awards for her contributions to the entertainment Industry and was also elected as a member of the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities in 2001 by the then President George W.
