The History of Bhiwapur village can be traced back to 2nd century B.C. The remains of dilapidated castle can be seen in Bhiwapur. So, it is said that the Gond King ruled over here for pretty long time. There are many anecdotes about Bhiwapur. The word “Bhiwapur” is derived from “Bhimapur”, the name given after one milkman Bhimaji who visited here for the first time then. According to another anecdote, during the “Dwapar Era” the Pandavas went thorugh twelve-year long “Adnyat-waas”. During their journey through the land of Vidarbha, Bhima visited this place and laid the foundation stone of the famous historical temple of “Bhima-Devi”. Ever since this event, this place is known as “Bhiwapur”.
