The Madras Diocese of the Church of South India launched the CSI Ewart Womens Christian College - Kancheepuram in 1997. CSI Ewart Womens Christian College - Kancheepuram is recognized by the Government of Tamilnadu. Rev.Sandy Mac Donald, Moderator of the Church of Scotland declared the College open on 29 September 1997. Rt.Rev.M.Azariah, Bishop in Madras at that time, inaugurated the College on 31 October 1997 at its first location at C.S.I. Ewart Girls Higher Secondary School. Dr.Mrs.P.Chandrasekaran was the first Principal. In 1893, Rev. Adam Andrew, missionary of the Free Church of Scotland founded the Christian settlement of Melrosapuram on 72 acres of land with 13 families.
It was to this sprawling and lush location that the college moved into during 2001. The present Chairman of the College, Ret. Rev. Dr. V. Devasahayam, Bishop in Madras initiated the Hostel project in 2005 so that the students from distant locations in Madras Diocese could have access to higher education in Ewart College and fulfill the mission of the college. CSI Ewart Womens Christian College - Kancheepuram is situated at Melrosapuram, Via-Singa perumal Koil, Kancheepuram. CSI Ewart Womens Christian College - Kancheepuram offers a sound liberal Christian education in disciplines that have potential for a productive career. Students also learn by carrying out independent research projects. The College aims at the development of character and total personality development of each student through a wide range of curricular and co-curricular activitites and student organizations. The College Chaplain supports the spiritual development of the community and provides counseling.
CSI Ewart Womens Christian College - Kancheepuram Library is fully automated with a wide collection of the books and periodicals. This collection is expanded and updated each year. The open access system provides reading and reference facilities for faculty and students. All the Students are members of the college Union and are expected to participate in all its activities. Under its auspices, Interdepartmental competitions are conducted in co-curricular, Extra-curricular and sports events. There are associations for every department. There are special staff advisors to co-ordinate the activities of all departments.
NSS volunteers participated in a Mass Beach Cleaning and Environment Awareness Campaign held at Mamallapuram on 29th July 2009. Mr. Kingslin and Mr. Sudaroli conducted a seminar on Domestic violence against women in CSI Ewart Womens Christian College - Kancheepuram by the International Foundation for Crime Prevention and victim care. A special camp was organized in the big Senguntram village for a week. The theme for the camp was “healthy youth for health India” The volunteers carried out street cleaning and social awareness campaign. Leadership training 38 NSS volunteers participated in Pulse Polio campaign on 1st Feb 2009. A One day life as part of the skill program was 21st Feb 2009 by a resource person from Social Women’s Awareness Trust.
CSI Ewart Womens Christian College - Kancheepuram Red Ribbon Club members have completed 10 hour module on 9th March 2009 members of this club participated in Life Saving No HIV-AIDS human chain formation at Marina beech and received certificate of appreciation from Tamilnadu AIDS control society. Indian Red Cross Society, Tamilnadu Branch, Youth Red cross conducted various competitions in view of the Geneva Convention Day Celebration 2008. Eight students participated in Essay writing Tamil & English, Quiz and Painting.
