Established in year 1973, under the aegis of Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, Hindustan Cables Ltd. and a group of philanthropists, Deshabandhu Mahavidyalaya – Burdwan travelled a terrain of hard times and had landed, with the blessings of the Govt. of West Bengal, the U.G.C., the CLW, the HCL, the people of the locality and many other well wishers, to a plateau ultimately. Deshabandhu Mahavidyalaya – Burdwan an affiliate institution of the University of Burdwan and a registered academy of University Grants Commission imparts instructions on general degree courses in Science, Humanities and Commerce streams and professional degree courses in Advertising, Sales Promotion and Sales Management, BBA(Hons) & BCA(Hons).
Deshabandhu Mahavidyalaya – Burdwan was established with the specific objective to cater to the need of Higher Education of the locality.This College has also the goal to develop healthy student - teacher relationship, to inculcate among students values that will help them live in harmony with the world at large and to help them become efficient members of the futuristic society. This College also does not ignore the imperative to generate employment as well as helping students to bring their learning bear upon every day of existence.
Deshabandhu Mahavidyalaya – Burdwan admits students in Honours Course in Bengali, English, Hindi, Economics, Political Science, Philosophy, History, Mathematics, Accountancy and Geography and General Courses in Bengali, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Economics, Political Sc, Philosophy, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Commerce. The college is at the heart of Chittaranjan Township. It is situated beneath th Kangoi Hill, a beautiful place with free and congenial atmosphere.
Deshabandhu Mahavidyalaya – Burdwan is located at Chittaranjan, Burdwan, West Bengal. A limited number of seats are available in the college hostel. This accommodation is given to outsation candidates. Presently hostel is under renovation. Deshabandhu Mahavidyalaya – Burdwan auditorium offers a stage to its young students to perfect their talent, communication and performing skills. It has been witness to many famous events and has provided a forum to many burgeoning artists. It is the hub center of all cultural activities and mega events in the college and designed to seat as many as 450 students.
At Deshabandhu Mahavidyalaya – Burdwan N.S.S. is a forum for providing the opportunity of social service and giving the exposure of prevailing social condition to the students. Students can get themselves enrolled as N.S.S. volunteers by filling in a form available with N.S.S. office. Volunteers can participate in different social service activites, viz., Adult Education, Social Awarness, Drug De-addiction, Tree Plantation and Mass Communication programmes conducted by our N.S.S. unit.
Deshabandhu Mahavidyalaya – Burdwan provides various amenities for students and offer many opportunities for paricipation in the corporate life of the institution. Through their union students can participate in Debate, Seminar, Games & Sports, Essay & Story Competition, Music Competition, Publication of Magazine etc. For the benefit of the students and staff the college has an Canteen in the campus.

Professionally, the education of the student is not complete at Deshabandhu Mahavidyalaya – Burdwan until he/she is professionally placed in a position of his/her choice. Towards this end the college organizes placement meets perdically.
