Donyi Polo Government College – West Siang was established in 1996. The college volunteered to be assessed by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council(NAAC) and submitted its Self-Study Report (SSR) to NAAC, Bangalore, on February 2006. A Peer Team was constituted by the council to visit the institution and validate the Self-Study Report .The Peer Team consisting of Prof.K.M.Pathak , Former Vice-Chancellor , Tezpur University , Assam as Chairperson and Prof.(Mrs) M.M. Marwein, Director, CDC, NEHU, Shillong as member coordinator and Dr. R.K Das, former Principal, B.H. College, Howly as member visited the
Donyi Polo Government College – West Siang for two days - September 26 and 27, 2006.
Donyi Polo Government College – West Siang has a campus of 103 acres of flat land. However most of the campus is lying vacant. At present the campus accommodates Academic and Administrative blocks, three hostels Two Boys and One Girls' - each having 60 seats, and staff Residential quarters. However the present infrastructure available to the College is quite insufficient. As such the Donyi Polo Government College – West Siang, with the permission of the State Govt., has been using temporarily some buildings of the DIET which is also within the same campus. One Girls' Hostel is also in the DIET building. Thus, the total number of hostels comes to 4 (four).
It is worth noting that the Alumni Association is said to be actively cooperating in the infrastructure development processes. Besides the grants from State Govt., the Donyi Polo Government College – West Siang, being situated in a backward, rural and tribal area, receives special financial help from the UGC as well. The institution also received financial support from MPLAD, MLALAD and District Administration. Nine room administrative block, library and four class rooms has been constructed out of these funds.
The college has a separate library building. Currently the number of books in the Library is 3164. There is Book Bank facility in the Library. The Library provides services from 9am to 4pm on all working days. The college library needs to be equipped with modern facilities. The Donyi Polo Government College – West Siang has, in total 03 computers. Efforts are being made to computerize the library. However for want of Power supply during working hours, the college finds difficulty in running the computers. At present, there is altogether 3164 number of books in the library, and the numbers of Journals/Periodicals subscribed are 14 only. There is a play ground in the campus. The College has outdoor games facilities like Foot Ball, Volley Ball, and Cricket etc. College offers Bachelor of Arts course to students.
