Hewett Polytechnic - Lucknow was originally started at Gorakhpur in 1904. Some-Time in 1908 the institution was shifted from Gorakhpur to Lucknow in a rented building at Jagat Narain Road, the main reason being that Lucknow was the capital of Avadh enjoying a central position in Uttar Pradesh.
Onwards Hewett Polytechnic - Lucknow by virtue of well-trained staff and their spirit of great enterprises progressed by leaps and bound. It enjoyed not only country wide popularity but a good number of Middle East, Iran, Tibet, Bhutan; Ceylon etc. had their training in it. In 1934 the institution was formally recognized by the state government and at a later stage by the Govt. of India also.
In 1958-59 Hewett Polytechnic - Lucknow was permitted by the state Govt. to start two additional courses i.e. Diploma in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering in addition to the Civil Engineering branch, each of three years duration. Shortly after wars a change in nomenclature of the institution from Hewett Engineering School to Hewett Polytechnic - Lucknow was affected at the instance of the Government. The institute is running courses in Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering with intake of 60 Students in each branch.
Hewett Polytechnic - Lucknow aim is to impart such professional and spiritual knowledge to my students so that they become good professionals and excellent citizens of our country. Through shallow intellect, the mind becomes shallow and one eats the fly along with the sweets. This realization, through knowledge, is the key to success.
Hewett Polytechnic - Lucknow is located at Near Rahimnagar Crossing, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.College library has around 37358 books related to different subjects of various disciplines of engineering, computer science, information technology, basic sciences, languages and other general books. The collection of books is strengthened and updated. A separate Book Bank is also provided to meet the requirement of students of S.C., B.C. and other lower income groups. The Book Bank has a collection of 11421 books.
Hewett Polytechnic - Lucknow has one bus, one mini bus to take care of educational tours and industrial visits of students. A jeep is attached to Training & Placement Officer to keep interaction with industries for the placement of students. Hewett Polytechnic - Lucknow is fully equipped with latest Machinery & Equipments to train the students to face the challenge of Modern Industries and conduct all the experiments and practical exercises as per the curriculum of the courses being run at this institute.
In spite of the tough and demanding curriculum, sports and extra-curricular activities are carried out as a regular feature in this Institute and students of Hewett Polytechnic - Lucknow participate and perform well in the state level cultural and sport competitions e.g. Youth festival, Inter-Polytechnic Athletic Meets and the state level tournaments of various games and other literary activities like Quiz-contest, & Declamation Contest etc. College has also the scheme of N.S.S (National Service Scheme). Various activities are carried out by the volunteers of this scheme, which include blood donation camps, tree plantation etc. Latest achievement of Hewett Polytechnic - Lucknow is the first position in Inter – Polytechnic Table Tennis tournament held at G.P Sonepat in Sep 2006. And second position in Inter – Polytechnic Volley ball (shooting) held at G.P Nilokheri in Sep 2006.
Hewett Polytechnic - Lucknow provides different facilities. A comprehensive annual program of all academic and extra curriculum activities is prepared in the beginning of session. This is known as calendar of Activities. This include all National Festival, Quiz Contest, Paper Reading contest, Declamation contest, Blood Donation Camp, Tree plantation Camp, Sports Events, Short Industries visit, Long Industrial visit, Quest lectures etc. There are various clubs in Hewett Polytechnic - Lucknow which provide ample opportunities to the students to develop into a complete human being.
Hewett Polytechnic - Lucknow has been provided with the different workshops for the training of the students that have been equipped with a wide range of modern, automatic and high-tech machines being used in the industry for the production of various products as per the market requirement.
