Markanda National College – Shahabad was established in 1971 by M.N. College Educational Society primarily to cater to the educational needs of this predominantly rural area. At that time, no college existed at Ladwa and even at Kurukshetra, the seat of Kurukshetra University. There was only one college called University College, which had only brilliant urban students on its rolls. The establishment of this college with kind efforts of late Sh. Bakshi Munshi Ram Bhasin proved to be a boon for this area ever since its inception, the college has not looked back and has been making significant strides. It has developed into a multifaculty institution, imparting instructions in English at Post – graduate level and in Arts, Science and Commerce streams at Under-graduate level.
Markanda National College – Shahabad is situated at Ladwa Road at a distance of only 1 Km. from both Shahabad (Markanda) Railway Station and Bus Stand. The college is proud of its imposing infrastructure on a 6 acre land and an environment conducive to learning. It has a spacious building surrounded by lush green lawns and a playground. The building consists of well maintained class rooms, well equipped labs (Physics, Chemistry and Computers), a spacious canteen, a Library with a Conference room, an Auditorium, an Edusat Theater, separate new girls common room and a Seminar Hall besides Administrative block and Principal’s residence.
Markanda National College – Shahabad usually has about 700 students on its rolls per annum. Besides traditional subjects, faculties are available for teaching Marketing as Vocational Subject, Retailing / Information and Computer Technology as Add-on-Courses. The library plays a central role in helping college achieve its mission of providing students a quality education. Beyond its immediate responsibility to provide the information services and resources that support the courses of study offered at the college, the library has the broader mission of fostering in our students the importance and necessity of lifelong learning. Markanda National College – Shahabad has spacious and well-stocked library with more than 21,120 books, 36 periodicals and 12 newspapers. The college also subscribes for international and national journals, periodicals and newspapers for the students and faculty members at the college library.

Special fee concessions are offered to girl students. Fee structure for girls in our college is minimum as compared to other institutions. Women Cell works for girls under lady lecturer incharge and organizes various activities for girls.
