NSS College - Alappuzha, owes its origin to the hardwork and patronage of the Nair Service Society, an educational agency in Kerala and to the initiative and vision of its founder the late Mannathu Padmanabhan. NSS College - Alappuzha which acts as a nexus linking the Cherthala and Vaikom taluks and fulfils the long felt need of the area to provide higher education to aspiring students, came into being as a Junior College in 1964. It was upgraded in 1968. Its first PG course was started in 1995.
NSS College - Alappuzha has a very active NCC Unit, three socially committed National Service Scheme Units and very efficient Sports and Arts wing, the students of this premier institution, situated in an economically and educationally backward area, had won laurels in the University examinations, Youth Festivals and Athletic meets.College provides Bachelor Degree and Master Degree to the college students.
NSS College - Alappuzha is located at Cherthala, Alappuzha, Kerala. The General Library is fully automated. All students are members of NSS College - Alappuzha library. The library has two sections (a) Reference (b) General. The reference and the general sections of the library are under the charge of the librarian. Books issued to the students shall not be retained for more than two weeks. If the due date falls on a holiday, the book must be returned on the next working day. If the books belonging to a set or series are lost or damaged and a new volume is not separately available the borrower shall be required to replace the whole set. The defaced book set will be given to the borrower after its replacement.
NSS College - Alappuzha hostel located inside the campus accommodates around hundred students every year. This is also a recognized Sports Hostel. The Principal is the warden. The hostel mess is run by a committee. The Parent-Teacher Association has provided one bus to NSS College - Alappuzha which is managed by staff-committee. The centralized computer lab with ample number of LAN computers has been set up in NSS College - Alappuzha. Short term course in MS office and Internet are conducted throughout the year for all the students to ensure cent percent computer literacy. For the students in Commerce stream, a course in TALLY is also run at a nominal fee. The fee collected is used for lab maintenance. NSS College - Alappuzha has a language lab meant for general use. At present there are six systems including the teacher console. The lab aims at improving communication skills especially in English.
A fax machine is installed at NSS College - Alappuzha office for speedy communication. There is internet facility in the college which is very much essential in an academic institution. A yoga and fitness center attached to the college benefits the Sports students. The staff and other students also make use of this facility. An auditorium with a seating capacity of thousand, located inside the campus, serves also as waiting room and indoor recreation room for the students.
