Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences - Mangalore was established in 1992. It is one among the few reputed institutions offering nursing education in Karnataka. The College started with Diploma (GNM) and Graduate programs and in 2004, introduced Postgraduate programs. It is affiliated to the Nitte University and is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC), Government of India.
Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences - Mangalore, which is a unit of the Nitte Education Trust, was recognized by the Karnataka Nursing Council in 1995 and the Indian Nursing Council in 1996. Students who pass out from the school are awarded with a diploma from the Karnataka State Diploma in Nursing Examination Board, Bangalore. Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences - Mangalore provides Diploma, bachelor Degree and Master Degree to the students.

The library is fully digitalized with open access system, reprographic facilities and the internet and is open to the students from 8 am to 6.30 pm.
A Research Cell has been established in Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences - Mangalore comprising of senior PG faculty members and external experts as members. Ongoing projects are carried out by undergraduate and postgraduate students under the guidance of the senior faculty. Annually, 7 research projects are taken up by the IV year B.Sc students.
Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences - Mangalore has well-equipped laboratories for practical training prior to hospital posting. Besides this, students are also exposed to community outreach programs at rural, urban and primary health centres at Natekal, Nitte and Jeppinamogaru, which are attached to the college. The College conducts Continuing Nursing Education programs, journal clubs and workshops to upgrade the teaching faculty. They are encouraged to participate and present papers at national and international workshops and seminars.
The KS Hegde Hospital is a fully fledged 715 bed hospital attached to Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences - Mangalore. The hospital has state-of-the-art facilities in Anaesthesiology, Dermatology, ENT, General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Radiology and TB, Chest & Respiratory diseases.
Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences - Mangalore is a unit of the Red Cross and the NSS and has a Red Ribbon Club. Extension activities are carried out regularly by the staff and students. Students are provided with adequate facilities for sports and opportunities to participate in intercollegiate and inter-university levels. Staff and students are provided with transportation to, commute to the college and the various clinics. The campus has a spacious cafeteria to cater to the needs of the staff and students.
