The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India set up the Institute at Jais, Rae Bareli district, Uttar Pradesh through an Act of Parliament. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology-RGIPT has been accorded the eminence of being an “Institute of National Importance” along the lines of the Indian Institute of Technology-IIT. With the status of a deemed university, the Institute is empowered to award degrees in its own right. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology-RGIPT is co-promoted as an energy domain specific institute by six leading Oil Public Sector Units in association with the Oil Industry Development Board-OIDB. The Institute is associated with leading International Universities/Institutions specializing in the domain of Petroleum Technology.
The prime objective of the Institute is to provide world class education, training, and research to roll out efficient human resources to meet the growing requirements of the Petroleum & Energy sector. The aspiration is to develop India as a global manpower hub for the entire Petroleum and Energy Sector.
Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology-RGIPT is located in Jais, Rai Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh is a training and education institute that will render expert Technical and Management Training to the existing petroleum industry and will provide multi-disciplinary techno-management, academic programmes in the fields of petroleum for creating Human Resource of the future on a global basis to meet the emerging demand scenario in India and abroad.
Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology-RGIPT is currently carrying out its activities in leased premises at Rae Bareli. The buildings have been completely renovated according to the needs and with state of art facilities. Few facilities currently provided by RGIPT are: Wi-Fi Enabled Campus and Hostels, Recreation rooms with AV facility, Air-conditioned Classrooms with AV facilities, Table Tennis rooms, Basket Ball court, Computer labs, Science labs, Gymnasium, Library, Mess, Server rooms for e-mailing facilities, etc.
Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology-RGIPT has an ambitious plan—to offer a number of Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree programs, PG diploma courses and Doctoral programs in Petroleum Technology and Management in phases. From the academic year 2008-2009, RGIPT has been imparting the MBA program and two Technical programs.
Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology-RGIPT will strive to facilitate student placement—both for summer internships and final job placements. By virtue of its lineage, RGIPT is uniquely placed to leverage the extensive industry network developed on its own and through its promoters, the leading Oil PSUs (ONGC, BPCL, IOCL, HPCL, GAIL, OIL and OIDB). For this endeavour, a placement cell will be formed, which will engage in constant interaction with the industry by way of seminars, summer internships, research projects, and on-campus and off-campus initiatives.
The profile of the students seeking placement assistance will be made available to the prospective employers. Personality Development workshops and intensive preparatory training for interviews will be imparted as a part of the placement program.
Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology-RGIPT shall endure to develop the placement exercise as a joint effort between the Institute and the students. RGIPT will provide guidance, support and will network with potential employers. Students who have equal responsibilities in the placement process will participate in policy formulation, the logistics of campus interviews etc.
