St Xaviers College for Women – Kochi is a long cherished and hard realized dream of Rt. Rev. Msgr. Augustine Maveli, Rev. Mother Magdelene C.T.C., and Very Rev. Mother Isabel C.T.C. (Superior General of the Congregation of the Teresian Carmelites). College is functioning under the management of the Congregation of Teresian Carmelites (C.T.C.). St Xaviers College for Women – Kochi started functioning on 6th of July, 1964 with four batches of Pre- Degree classes with the total strength of 238 students and 22 members of the Teaching staff. It was raised to the status of a degree College in 1968. St Xaviers College for Women – Kochi now offers Degree courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Zoology- Vocational, Economics, Malayalam, English Literature, Communicative English and Commerce. Post Graduate courses in Commerce, Physics, English and Microbiology started in 1984, 1998 and 2001 respectively.
Keeping with the grand tradition of providing students access to latest technology, St Xaviers College for Women – Kochi has implemented virtual class room in its campus from December 2005. We have the credit of becoming the second college in the state to provide this facility and the first women's college in the state. Under the able leadership of Rev.Sr. Speciosa, St.Xavier's College was accredited to the four star status by NAAC in 1999. St Xaviers College for Women – Kochiwas re-accredited at B++ grade, during the tenure of Rev. Sr. Charles in 2006. The Add-On Programmes on E-Banking, E-Marketing and Security Analysis are offered from 2004 and Tally from 2009 by the Department of Commerce. From 2008, the Add-on courses on Computer Application by the Department of Physics and from 2011, Add- On Course on Human Right Education by Dept. of Economics have been introduced.
St Xaviers College for Women – Kochi is situated at Aluva, Kerala. The well furnished and fully-fledged college library follows the open stack system with multiple cateloguing. The cateloguing is done under 3 heads - Author card, Title Card and Subject Card. The books in the library belong to three general categories. A well furnished and spacious Canteen functions in the campus to cater to the needs of the students. Meals and refreshments are available in the canteen at subsidised rates.It is open from 8.30 in the morning till 5 pm in the evening.
St Xaviers College for Women – Kochi Computer Centre was established in 1997 with the aim of generating computer awareness among the students and staff of the College. Started as"' extension centre of the College, it is as an autonomous institution under the Xaverian Management. The Centre had a humble beginning with 3 teachers and 15 machines. Now it has grown into a full fledged and well equipped study centre with 54 machines and over 200 students undergoing computer training. St. Xavier's Computer Centre is accredited by National Institute of Open Schooling, to conduct courses and training programmes in order to preparing students for CCA examination. It is also a study Centre of the School of Distance Education, Mahatma Gandhi University from 1998.
There is a women's hostel in St Xaviers College for Women – Kochi campus, near the bank of Periyar. There are 65 rooms in the hostel.The hostel has a capacity of accommodating 240students. At present there are 140 students in the hostel. The hostel provides all the intellectual, moral and spiritual growth of the students. The students have well furnished rooms to stay, with ample ventilations, electric lights and fans. Each one is having writing table a chair, a coat and a wall shelf. There is a separate study hall.
St Xaviers College for Women – Kochi has an audio visual room, two language labs (manual & digital) and a seminar hall which are equipped with all modern learning facilities like OHP, LCD, VCD, internet on-line access. The college has a recreation centre within the campus. This has become a favourite hangout for the students during their free hours. A college bus is in service for providing conveyance facility to students coming from Varapuzha and its neighbouring places.
St Xaviers College for Women – Kochi provides excellent facilities for maintaining the physical well being of our students." A helthy mind in a healthy body" is the motto of the Health Club. Keeping this objective in mind, the college houses a well-equipped health club having experienced fitness trainers to train students and assist them in maintaining good physique.Encourages lifestyle changes through excercise, weight control, and nutritious food habits.Provides a relaxed, open, supportive and stress-free ambience. Drinking water purifiers are installed in most of the floors of the campus, with free access to all students at all times. Parking facility for the vehicles of both students and staff are made available in the campus.
The counseling and guidance centre of St Xaviers College for Women – Kochi was inaugurated in the year 2006.We have a well furnished counselling room in the ground floor of the Jesus Block of the College. Some self help books are available there. Rev.Sr.C.J.Mitty Dept.of Chemistry is the co-ordinator of counselling centre from 2007 onwards. Every year seminars were organized on women empowerment.The service of experts from outside were arranged to build up self-esteem and emotional balance in those who are in need of it.
