Uluberia College owes its existence to the selfless and untiring service of the Founder-Principal Late Haripada Ghosal along with generous donations from the local people. Established in 1948 as a humble institution, the college has now developed to cater to more than four thousand students of diverse communities and backgrounds. The NAAC accreditation of B++ to the institution in 2007 has further strengthened the attempts towards academic excellence. The B.Ed. Department of the college was duly recognized by the N.C.T.E in 2008. It offers different kind of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Situated in the heart of the sub-division town of Uluberia and 2 kms from the Uluberia Railway station, Uluberia College is easily accessible from Kolkata as well as other neighboring districts. The Science laboratories include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, Botany, Physiology and Geography for carrying out the UG courses. The B.Ed. Department has a Life Science Laboratory besides Mathematics. There are seperate laboratories for Psychology, Language and Media. Laboratories are wel equipped with necessary instruments, equippments, apparatus, chemicals and glass goods, biological specimens and other associated aids. All departments are provided with Computers and Internet facility. The library as well as many of the laboratories has Computers with Internet.
Uluberia College team regularly participates in the inter College Football tournaments and Athletic Meets. Ample facilities for indoor games are provided viz. Table Tennis, Carrom, Chess etc. Annual Sports held with both indoor and outdoor events. Outstanding Sports persons are provided financial assistance as incentives. Besides they are given allowances for conveyance, tiffin, sports kits etc. They avail half-free Studentship and are also awarded Medals as recognition of their performance from the institution.
Job-cum-counselling fair organized in Uluberia College premises to enable students to get considerable exposure in the job market. Technical experts from diverse fields spoke of prospective professions which proved enlightening for the students. Separate Common Rooms allotted for boys and girls. College provides health service to students. Free health service is available for students.
Uluberia College NCC is an integral part of the College since last 4 decades. Under the effective guidance and leadership of the Principal and NCC officers – Cadets of our College brought Honours and Distinctions in various activities. The Social Service Program, which is an essential part of NCC activities are as follows: Uluberia College NCC 2/41 & 3/41 SD & SW group boys and girls cadets are actively and regularly engage in social service or Extension activities. Through the social awareness programs among the students community and the people in local area – these awareness programs take place. The National Service Scheme (NSS) started working in Uluberia College since the Academic Year 2008-09.
