Dr T Thimmaiah Institute of Technology - Dr TTIT Kolar was started in the year 1986 at KGF by Dr. T. Thimmaiah Ph.D (London), IAS (Retd), as the founder president under the aegis of Golden Valley Educational Trust, with the sole purpose of imparting quality technical education to all and especially downtrodden people of this backward region. This trust also runs KGF First Grade College, KGF PU College & KGF Law College. He was the Chairman of the Southern Regional Council for Technical Education for six years and was instrumental in granting permission to start new polytechnics and engineering colleges in the Southern States. He was the Vice President of ISTE for two terms. He was the Director of School of Mines, KGF. Dr T Thimmaiah Institute of Technology - Dr TTIT Kolar provides Bachelor Degree program to the students.

The Library and Information Centre has been completely automated and all the transactions are carried out through the Bar Code interface with an on-line search facility. The Library & Information Centre has 24000 collections of standard reference and text journals from USA. Under this package Dr T Thimmaiah Institute of Technology - Dr TTIT Kolar is getting nearly 36 subject journals/magazines covering EE, EC, CS & IS branches. Apart from this several National and International journals/magazines are also subscribed. The Library and information Centre is headed by Sri.R.M.Puttaswamy who is working in this college for the past 15 years. Further, Dr T Thimmaiah Institute of Technology - Dr TTIT Kolar Library and Information Centre has a MoU with DELNET for the purpose of resource sharing among member libraries. The students and staff members can access more than 30 lakhs bibliographic records of books, articles, thesis and CD-ROM database across the country including 10 overseas countries.
Dr T Thimmaiah Institute of Technology - Dr TTIT Kolar provides internet facility. Each department is connected with an Email server, enabling electronic communication between departments. Internet facilities are extended to all the Departments. A dedicated mail server installed in the computer department is used for posting progress reports and other information required to be communicated to the parents through email, making it fast and economical. All the students and their parents are provided with email IDs so that parents can keep in touch and have dialogue with the college authorities on a regular basis in an economical manner.

The college has a ground for out-door sports activities. The cricket and Volleyball teams have done well all these years. Facilities for indoor games are provided in every hostel and in the college. Dr T Thimmaiah Institute of Technology - Dr TTIT Kolar has National level Cricket Ground; an 18 whole Golf course spread over 25 acres, Lawn Tennis Court, Football, Basketball & Volleyball courts. The college also has facilities for Indoor games like Snooker, Shuttle & Table Tennis. The college conducts Inter-collegiate cricket tournament ever year. Leading Engineering Colleges of Bangalore region regularly participate in this tournament.
