GITAM Centre for Distance Learning – Visakhapatnam as be aware that any distance education centre needs statutory reorganization from Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi to offer programmes through distance mode. Degrees / Diplomas awarded through distance mode by any University recognized by DEC are only eligible to seek Government employment under an act of Parliament issued as a G.O to that effect by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in 1993.
GITAM Centre for Distance Learning – Visakhapatnam with an avowed objective of enhancing access to higher education with quality at affordable cost started the Centre for Distance Learning to offer programmes through distance mode from the year 2009-10 with the recognition of DEC.
This website of GITAM Centre for Distance Learning – Visakhapatnam covers all aspects such as admission, counseling, learner support services, evaluation and all other aspects ranging from pre-entry counseling to exit with a degree / diploma from the Centre for Distance Learning. The activity of providing library facilities to the students and staff started along with the starting of academic programmes. The library activity of GITAM Centre for Distance Learning – Visakhapatnam started with the setting up of library for College of Engineering in 1980. This was added by library of College of Management Studies 1988, which was followed by the library of GIFT in 1997. To optimize the resource utilization and maximize convenience to the users, the need of centralizing the library facility was felt. Accordingly GITAM Management took a bold step of constructing a huge building of architectural excellence with all modern gadgets.
GITAM Centre for Distance Learning – Visakhapatnam central library was commissioned in 2002 and subsequently transformed into Knowledge Resource Centre. The building was ideally and centrally located at the heart of the campus overlooking the vast expanse of scores of acres. It is garlanded by a cluster of academic buildings, classrooms, laboratories, workshops, sports grounds with international standards, canteen and hostel buildings. The hillock of Rushikonda, the legendary abode of saints, surrounded by green pastures and the blue ocean are some of the visual delights in the vast panoramic view from the library.
Health Care Centre is available in GITAM Centre for Distance Learning – Visakhapatnam campus with all types of medical advise, clinical tests and inpatient facility with five beds each for boys and girls. The centre is monitored by a resident medical doctor Dr. R. Prabhakar Rao. Specialists visit the centre during their appointed hours. An ambulance is made available on 24x7 bases to attend to medical emergencies. Students and Staff also have free access to dental college and hospital located in the campus to get their dental problems treated.
With a view to providing personal care to the students coming from various corners of the country, the GITAM Centre for Distance Learning – Visakhapatnam has built hostels that provide the right academic ambience for students in search of excellence in their pursuits. The disciplined and caring hostel environment helps the student imbibe positive values which serve as a firm foundation for their life and career. With the spirit of sharing and living in a multicultural community, they grow into evolved human beings. The GITAM Centre for Distance Learning – Visakhapatnam administration puts in all efforts to help the students feel at home in terms of comforts and concern of the hostel personnel. Eco-friendly environment, encouraging academic ambience, uncompromising quality of hygiene, steam cooking, safe drinking water, round the clock security, availability of qualified doctors and resident wardens, indoor games facilities, uninterrupted power supply- all these ensure a very safe and secure stay for the student.
Two nationalized banks – Union Bank of India and Indian Bank operate their branches in the GITAM Centre for Distance Learning – Visakhapatnam campus with the required banking operations. All students and Staff have access to both the banks. Two ATM counters of Union Bank of India and one ATM counter of Indian Bank offer services on 24 x 7 bases to all account holders with ATM facility. The working hours of the bank branches are also convenient as they operate during working hours of the University.
