Mary Matha Arts and Science College - Wayanad a degree college run by the Catholic Diocese of Mananthavady, symbolizes the realization of the dreams and aspirations of the people of North Wayanad. It was sanctioned by the Government of Kerala on the recommendation of the University of Calicut in response to the demands of the people. His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Jacob Thoomkuzhy, the then Bishop of Mananthavady, was kind enough to take upon himself the onerous task of establishing and managing this institution.
The Mary Matha Arts and Science College - Wayanad was formally inaugurated on 23rd October 1995. When Kannur University came into existence in 1996, the college became affiliated to it.There are Six Under Graduate Programs (B.A. Functional English, B.Sc. Mathematics, Zoology, Computer Science, Chemistry, and B. Com with Computer Applications), One Post Graduate Program in M. Sc Mathematics, Four Research Programs leading to M. Phil. & Ph.D. in Mathematics (Kannur, Mahatma Gandhi and Anna Universities), Malayalam (Kannur University), Zoology (Kannur University), and English (Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi, and IGNOU Universities) and Two Research Centres in Mathematics and Zoology.
It is with the objective of meeting the higher educational needs of the youth of Wayanad that the Catholic Diocese of Mananthavady undertook the mission of establishing and managing Mary Matha Arts and Science College - Wayanad . As a Christian institution, it endeavours to inculcate human values and social justice as envisaged by Jesus Christ. It considers education not just as a search for knowledge but as a great mission in which both the teachers and the students participate in the process of developing human resource for the benefit of the society and the nation.The Mary Matha Arts and Science College - Wayanad seeks to instill in the students an awareness of their social rooted ness and encourage them to be active participants in the construction of a just social order.

The library regularly subscribes to many journals (including international ones) and procures new books. The process of library automation will be commenced soon. The library remains open between 9.00 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. on all working days. Each student of Mary Matha Arts and Science College - Wayanad is issued library cards in order to encourage their use of the library and to make the same smooth and efficient. The Department of Physical Education promotes interest in sports and games among students. Coaching camps in various disciplines are conducted every year. There are five seats under sports quota for degree courses.Grace marks are awarded to students who represent the university in Inter-University competitions.

Also provides TV, Computer, Digital Video Camera, VCD player, OHP, DLP Projector and other similar facilities are available in the Audiovisual and Seminar Hall for the use of students and faculty members. Canteen facilities are available to staff and students on all working days.
