Sudhir Memorial Institute - SMI Kolkata was founded by an eminent scientist Dr. Subrata Bhattacharya and run by the Panchajanya Trust, with a vision to impart education in a process where, apart from academic and non-academic activities, culture and aesthetic values are also cultivated among the students.

Sudhir Memorial Institute - SMI Kolkata is situated at Jessore Road, Doltala, P.O. Ganganagar, Kolkata. The area of the entire Institution premises measures around 3 Acres. At present, the Institution has a four storied building with 16 classrooms in each floor and each classroom has a spacious area of 500 sq. ft.
A great deal of stress is given towards practical education, for which, we have state-of-the-art laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Geography, Home Science, and Computer Science with each laboratory measuring 1000 sq. ft. in area. Sudhir Memorial Institute - SMI Kolkata Computer Science Laboratory contains 20 PCs loaded with all the latest educational software. We are contemplating to add another 20 PCs within the next few months. Apart from this, a 1600 sq. ft. up-to-date library containing the latest reference books on every subject, newspapers, magazines etc. has also been added to the facilities of the students.
With a view to make the studying environment bright and airy, at Sudhir Memorial Institute - SMI Kolkata every classroom and laboratory have been provided with adequate lights and fans. The tables and benches in the classrooms and the furniture of laboratories, library and other rooms have been so designed to provide a comfortable seating arrangement for the students. In addition to this, a water-cooler, Television, Record players have also been provided to enhance the facilities to our students. Over and above, the latest feather which has been added to our cap is a huge 10,000 sq. ft. auditorium with a seating capacity of 2500 people.
We always believe in the age-old saying "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". Sudhir Memorial Institute - SMI Kolkata playground measures 40,000 sq. ft. in area, where every student is regularly encouraged to play all kinds of outdoor games. Separate Institution teams are formed for every game and we take part various tournaments. Necessary kits for all kinds of games have been provided and well maintained. We also have equally equipped two rooms of 1000 sq. ft. each for indoor games.
Sudhir Memorial Institute - SMI Kolkata office comprises of 4 rooms, where two rooms are of 300 sq. ft. and other two are of 500 sq. ft. and 400 sq. ft. each. Every effort has been made to provide a comfortable working environment for the non-teaching staff. A well furnished waiting room has been made available for the guardians who visit the Institution for different official purposes. Two swimming pools, one of which conforming to the Olympic type size with all modern amenities are nearing completion. A big canteen, which can accommodate seats for 50 students at a time, is provided for Tiffin and Meals.
