Suri Vidyasagar College – Birbhum is one of the biggest colleges in the Birbhum district(West Bengal). Established in 1942 during the World War II, presently a Govt. sponsored college under Burdwan University. The College offers honours courses in 16 subjects of Science, Commerce and Humanities under the affiliation of the University of Burdwan. The College has a number of high quality teachers known for their outstanding contribution in their respective field of activities. The college volunteered for institutional accreditation by NAAC, Bangalore, in November 2005. After analysis the executive committee of the NAAC has given grade B+.
Suri Vidyasagar College – Birbhum owns a highly equipped library owning nearly 44,056 books including some rare titles and some Journals as well. The library also provides adequate reading facilities for students and the staff as well. In addition, in order to provide ready access, there are also seminar libraries in almost all departments.
Suri Vidyasagar College – Birbhum has separate hostels for boys and girls in which number of seats in Boys’ Hostel is 60 and number of seats in Girls’ Hostel is 42.
Since inception in 1948, National Cadet Corps has traversed a long way to become a major youth organization in the country to help inculcate discipline and develop leadership qualities among youth. Through its wide range of activities , NCC promotes National Integration and spirit of unity in our country. It is a matter of deep satisfaction that, the Cadets of Suri Vidyasagar College – Birbhum NCC units (comprising of 3 units, one Girls unit under 5 Bengal Bn. NCC, Burdwan and two Boys Units under 15 Bengal Bn. NCC, Suri, Birbhum, both under Burdwan Gp. HQ, West Bengal & Sikkim Directorate) played an important role in maintaining of traditions of NCC through self services.
Suri Vidyasagar College – Birbhum study centre was opened from the very inception of the University under certain conditions laid down in the MOU between NSOU and Suri Vidyasagar College Governing Body. The study center is run by NSOU and guided by the rules and regulations of NSOU. Internal administration of the study centre is solely under the control of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, NSOU and the infrastructural facilities like class room accomodation and man power are supplied by the host Suri Vidyasagar College – Birbhum.
At present there are one coordinator and two other assistant coordinators appointed by the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, NSOU on recomendation of the Principal of the host college. As per MOU, Principal is the local administraive head. The study centre is also run by a staff pattern frames, and governed by the University. Counsellors are appointed from among the veteran College/ University teachers.
