Swami Vidyaprakasa Ananda Government College - Chittoor was established in August 1966, with the initiative taken by Swami Vidyaprakasa Ananda of Sri Sukabrahma Ashram, a couple of miles away from the town. The Swamy being a great educationist and philosopher was moved at heart by the then prevailing conditions in and around this town. The students from the surrounding villages had to rush to long distances like Chennai and Tirupati to pursue higher education. The poor farmers belonging to this backward area could not afford to send their wards to distant places. The Institution aspires to impart quality education to the students wherein the students are transformed into knowledgeable power with character, commitment and wisdom in preservation of social, cultural and ethical issues. Swami Vidyaprakasa Ananda Government College - Chittoor offers different kind of undergraduate, postgraduate, certificate, diploma courses.
The library plays a central role in helping college achieve its mission of providing students a quality education. Beyond its immediate responsibility to provide the information services and resources that support the courses of study offered at the college, the library has the broader mission of fostering in our students the importance and necessity of lifelong learning. At Swami Vidyaprakasa Ananda Government College - Chittoor National Service Scheme (NSS) is started with noble ideals of inculcating in the youth a sense of discipline and dignity of labor. The object of NSS is to develop the personality of the youth and make him understand the problems of the society and his responsibility to the society as an educated, responsible citizen. The main aim is to make him humane who can have sympathetic attitude towards men and matters and solve them. On the recommendation of Dr. Kothari, NSS had its origin in a few selected colleges in India in 1969. Swami Vidyaprakasa Ananda Government College - Chittoor has three NSS units working at present. Three lecturers i.e.Sri R. Thyagarajula Naidu, Dr. R. Saraswathi and Sri Venkateswarlu Naidu are the Program Officers actively conducting all the service activities.
There is one platoon of NCC in the college under the command of Cap. Dr. Y.Nagaraja Naidu. The cadets actively participated in the Pulse Polio Program, Clean and Green and Janmaboomi Programs .They went in a rally all round the town on the International AIDS Day on 1-12-2004. 40 cadets appeared for B and C certificate examinations in February 2004. Nearly 50 students donated their blood on 27-11-2004 to the Indian Red Cross Society, Chittoor. The cadets also attended many training camps and brought good name to the college.
The Career Guidance Cell of
Swami Vidyaprakasa Ananda Government College - Chittoor was constituted during the academic year 2000-2001, when there was a great demand for the computer trained graduates. To motivate the students in the right direction, the constitution of the cell became a necessity and a reality. It is intended to suggest ways and means of getting employment and avenues for higher studies to the students of the college.
