Dr Ambedkar Institute of Technology - Bangalore was established in 1980 by late Sri M.H. Jayaprakash Narayan, who was twice MLA, Ex-Syndicate/Senate member of Bangalore University, a visionary and an educationist. He was a strong follower of the Principles of the Bharatha Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. It is premier Institute built on the Ideals of Bharatha Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. It is a grant-in-aid institution of Government of Karnataka.
Dr Ambedkar Institute of Technology - Bangalore is run by Panchajanya Vidya Peeta Welfare Trust. The trust is managing a number of educational institutions including P.V. P. Polytechnic, in Bangalore. Dr. AIT was established in 1979 by Late Sri. MH Jayaprakash Narayan. He came from a very humble background and was a member of legislative assembly (MLA) for several terms. He fought relentlessly for the upliftment of the downtrodden. He believed that education is the main path for the emancipation of the oppressed classes and started a number of educational institutions in Bangalore.
Dr Ambedkar Institute of Technology - Bangalore has faculty strength of 167 comprising of 2 Emeritus Professors, 6 Professors, 47 Asst. Professors, 46 Selection Grade Lecturers, 12 Senior Lecturers and 54 Lecturers. Of these, 13 staff members possess Doctoral degree, 29 staff members are pursuing Ph.D., and 85 staff members are having postgraduate degree. The library is housed in an independent building named as Dr Ambedkar Centenary Bhavan. It occupies an area of about 1298 sq mtrs with three floors. There are five divisions in the library. They are lending, reference, periodical, digital & PG library. It has a collection of 62000 volumes and 17000 titles covering all disciplines in UG & PG courses. The library had a seating capacity for 255 students.

More than 90% of the students have been placed since 2004.
Training for placements is being conducted for the students to take up campus interviews successfully. Infosys Campus Connect training program is conducted in every semester. Industry-Institute Interaction programs are also conducted for the students and faculty of our institution.
