SIVET College – Chennai was established in 1966. It is a co-educational institution of repute which offers courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, and Business Administration .The College was formally inaugurated by Late Thiru S.A.Ayyasamy Chettiar, M.A.B.L., His Excellency the SOUTH INDIA VANIAR EDUCATION TRUST was formed. The trust is to provide quality and holistic education to its students. An emphasis to kindle and foster the academic and artistic creative abilities and talents of students is made so as to develop them to be individuals with character, vision and resourcefulness.
In 1971, The UG degree course was started with B.A. History and B.Sc. Math’s. The management has taken all efforts to build a team of committed teachers who form an integral part of SIVET College – Chennai in its growth. Then major courses at the under-graduate Level viz. Economics, Commerce, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology and Corporate Secretary ship courses are formed. In 1984-85 and 1986-87 PG degree was started with M.Com and M.Sc. (Mathematics) by the approval of the Government and the University. In 1992-93, SIVET College – Chennai started the evening College with B.Sc. Computer Science Course. The subsequent years have witnessed the starting of courses like B.Sc. (Bio-Chemistry), M.C.A., B.B.A., M.Sc. (Bio-Chemistry), B.Com, M.B.A. and B.Sc. ISM.
SIVET College – Chennai is situated in Velachery Main Road, Gowrivakkam Tambaram, Chennai. The NAAC peer team visited our college during July 25 & 26, 2005 and recorded their observations and also accredited the college with B++ Grade. Keeping pace with changing times, the college established a placement officer. In the year 2007-2008 more than 200 students were placed in leading companies via in CTS, WIPRO, and OMEGA Health care. MCA & MBA courses are approved by AICTE, New Delhi; Affiliated to Madras University, Chennai and Accredited by National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi.
SIVET College – Chennai has 2 libraries functioning under Shift-I college (aided stream) and Shift-II college (Self finance stream) library, both the libraries have an excellent collection of books, magazines periodicals journals in different subject areas. In addition major departments like bio chemistry, MCA and MBA have a lot of impressive list of new edition books and periodicals. Our library remains open for nearly 7 hours on all working days of the week for the benefit of students and faculty.
SIVET College – Chennai has got well equipped & well furnished labs on subject like Chemistry , Zoology , Physics , Biochemistry & Computer labs ; to develop the technical skills of the students. The Computer lab consists of advanced systems with new configuration and it is updated with new soft wares, from time to time. The bio- chemistry laboratory, occupies an area of approximately 2000 sq.feet and the students can use the equipments for their study & analysis.
The service of the placement cell in SIVET College – Chennai is to secure jobs to the final year students of that institution. The cell comprises of placement officer, placement –in-charge (Faculty) and placement representatives (Students) from each department under its umbrella.
The placement cell of SIVET College – Chennai has been playing a vital role in procuring job opportunities to the final year students since 2007. Students are constantly kept abreast of the employment opportunities available in India and Abroad. It also conducts training on personality development and career development skills, etc., major organizations were brought to the campus to discuss about the employment opportunities with the young talents.
