Nagaland College of Teacher Education – Kohima (the erstwhile Nagaland College of Education) was established in the year 1975. Realizing the need for improving the quality of education at the Secondary level, Nagaland College of Teacher Education – Kohima was established through the joint effort of the State Government of Nagaland and the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU),Shiliong. Dr.K.J.Joseph who was posted as Reader NEHU,Kohima campus was the ex-officio Principal of the College in the month of February, 1975. Shri.O.Kathipri, the then Special Secretary Education,Government of Nagaland inaugurated the B.Ed.class which began on 1 st April, 1975 in the Girls Hostel of Government High School,Kohima.
Nagaland College of Teacher Education – Kohima library is a beautiful and modern library well updated books, journals & multimedia learning aids, provides the student and opportunities to keep themselves well versed with related information. A library well stocked with all the necessary volumes is available at the student's disposal. It is the synthesis of theories with working knowledge, together avenues to exploit all the available resources; we can mould our students into thorough professionals, who would become the leaders of their profession.
Apart from various academic programmes organized by NCTE to bring about trainees efficacy in the teaching learning process, Nagaland College of Teacher Education – Kohima is progressively producing better results. This was corroborated by the fact that a record of sorts was achieved by the 2008 batch. The pass percentage was 96.95% with 5 trainees being placed in the top ten, 62 in first division and 2 more in the second division. It is also a matter of pride for the College that for the year 2008, two of NCTE staff, Dr.Rukhono Iralu ,Vice-Principal, and Mr.Neizieo, UDA were awarded the Meritorious Award and the Commendation Certificate respectively.

Nagaland College of Teacher Education – Kohima campus is located in the Kohima-Wokha road, next to Government High School Complex. The College was recognized by National Council for Teacher Education in 1996.
