Late Shri. V.T. Patil, the President of Tararani Vidyapeeth, is the founding father of Shivraj Arts, Commerce and D S KADAM Science College – Kolhapur. The objectives before him were o provide higher educational facilities to the educationally backward areas of Gadhinglaj, Ajara and Chandgad. Our college was inaugurated at the hands of Balasaheb Desai the then Minister of Education, the Government of Maharashtra in Maharani Radhabai High school, Gadhinglaj on June, 26, 1964.
In 1967 Shri. V. T. Patil and Dr. S. S. Ghali approached the concerned farmers and appealed them to give away their land for the academic infrastructure. The concerned farmers agreed to transfer their land to Shivraj Arts, Commerce and D S KADAM Science College – Kolhapur with just a token amount. Their solemn sacrifice is beyond the level of verbal expression.
In the year 1974 Shivraj Arts, Commerce and D S KADAM Science College – Kolhapur was handed over to Karmveer Vitthal Ramaji Shinde Shikshan Sanstha, Gadhinglaj. Hon. Shri. Balasaheb alias R. S. Mane, the President of Karmveer Vitthal Ramaji Shinde Shikshan Sanstha, Gadhinglaj gave the dynamic leadership to this institute. He tried his best to fulfill the educational needs of the students of this area by introducing the faculty of Science both at Junior and Senior College level. Shri. D. S. Kadam then Vice-president donated Rs. Two Lac to meet the expenses of the faculty of Science. Hon. Shri. Balasaheb alias R. S. Mane, Shri. D. S. Kadam concentrated on the construction of new buildings. The foundation stone of the new building was laid at the hands of Hon. Yashavantrao Chavan and Hon. Vasantdada Patil the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

To make our students the responsible citizens with civic sense, we conduct various activities so as to involve them in the process of nation building. N.S.S. and N.C.C. activities imbibe in them, the values of secularism, equality, solidarity and fraternity.

The college offers 44 subjects and 178 papers in respective disciplines. The medium of instruction is Marathi for the faculties of Arts and Commerce and English for the faculty of Science. Computer Laboratory of Shivraj Arts, Commerce and D S KADAM Science College – Kolhapur ‘Digital Vision’ the Computer Laboratory is a unique feature of the college. It houses 35 Pentium Compaq computers. The machines are connected with an NT Server. There are three separate rooms for Computer Laboratory and 10 Computers connected with Internet facilities. The practical are for B.Sc. (Computer), B.C.S., B.B.A., B.C.A., M.Sc. (Computer) classes etc.
Shivraj Arts, Commerce and D S KADAM Science College – Kolhapur has the NCC and NSS units for the students. The training is given on every Sunday to the cadets/volunteers by the experienced and dedicated NCC/NSS Officers. Our students also represent the college in the Republic Day Parade at New Delhi on 26th January.
Compulsory in plant training of Shivraj Arts, Commerce and D S KADAM Science College – Kolhapur of 30 days for Final year students only. 40% is the minimum passing for in plant training.
