The strength of a developed nation depends primarily on the literacy of the nation". With this vision as a beacon "Kalvichemmal" Sri T. K. Pattabhiraman set out on a mission to provide quality education and the fruit of that endeavor was the founding of the Coimbatore Educational and Cultural Foundation Trust. Under the sponsorship of this Trust, Sankara College of Science and Commerce – Coimbatore was established in the year 1991 with the sole aim of making a modest contribution to the society. The institution was named after the great saint "Adhi Sankararar".
"In Pursuit of Knowledge" is the prophetic Mission Statement of the college. Sankara Educational Institution is ceaseless in its pursuit of excellence, to provide quality education to all who are in the quest of knowledge. The student community and the society today have recognized this inspired effort, that Sankara is now one among the most sought after places of learning. Sankara College of Science and Commerce – Coimbatore has a long academic tradition in scholarships; this is coupled with the facilities for the pursuit of knowledge so that it caters to the needs of the rural students who aspire for Arts and Science courses.

The Administration Block And Sankara College of Science and Commerce – Coimbatore Hostel - the "one core" project is to be set off in the coming academic year 2006 - 2007. This block features the state-of-the-art services would provide vicinity that fulfills a "perfect administration atmosphere". A college hostel for boys and girls with all amenities has also been proposed that serve as a Home-Away From Home.’

Sankara College of Science and Commerce – Coimbatore library is housed in MBA building and caters to the information needs of the Institute, Faculty, Students and Staff. It has more than 100OO books, 477 project report, and 466 cds covering all disciplines of Management, Computer Science, information technology and General. The collection comprises printed books, reports, theses, and journal back volumes. The non-book collections include material like CD ROM discs. Sankara College of Science and Commerce – Coimbatore library currently subscribes to more than 82 scholarly journals in Management Computer science and Information technology. The library provides various services for its members such as - Lending of books and journal back volumes, reservation of books, inter-library loan, photocopying, and CD ROM and Internet services. All the library activities are computerized, including searching of books in the library through a OPAC. (Online Public Access catalog).
Sankara College of Science and Commerce – Coimbatore Library has a committed and dedicated librarian. Our Librarian Mr. G. Chinnapparaj provides ready reference service and long reference services as per the needs of the students. The Catering Science and Hotel Management department has updated Basic training kitchen, Quantity kitchen, Basic Training Restaurant, Housekeeping Laboratory, Front Office, and Engineering Equipment Lab etc.

Sophisticated hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls separately within the college campus and it serves as a “home out of home”. Sankara College of Science and Commerce – Coimbatore NSS unit of over 100 boys and girls has conducted over 5 camps, each spanning for 10 days. Recently a camp named "youth for recharging water resources" was conducted. The NSS unit organized tsunami relief. Many of the students helped with clothing, food for victims and even helped in the recovery of bodies from the debris. Sankara College of Science and Commerce – Coimbatore offers different kind of Bachelor, Master courses leading to Management, Commerce, and IT field. College has a good placement cell from where students can avail the better job opportunities.
