KMCH College of Physiotherapy – Coimbatore, one of the pioneers in field of Physiotherapy education was started in the year 1994 by the Kovai Medical Center Research & Educational Trust, initially offering the "Bachelor of Physiotherapy" degree course. Later in 1999, the Post graduate – “Master of Physiotherapy” degree course was started in 3 specialties, namely Orthopaedics, Neurology & Cardio pulmonary diseases. KMCH College of Physiotherapy – Coimbatore obtained the prestigious ISO 9001:2000 certification in the year 2005, and maintains the highest standards in providing International educational quality Physiotherapy education. KMCH College of Physiotherapy is recognized by the Government of Tamilnadu.
Besides the hospital training, fully equipped Anatomy, Physiology, Electrotherapy and Exercise therapy laboratories are available for the KMCH College of Physiotherapy – Coimbatore students to practice and familiarize themselves with the handling of various equipment and to perfect their therapy techniques. The College has well equipped spacious demonstration halls separately for exercise therapy & electrotherapy so that student can understand effectively, what they have learnt in the classroom. Practical sessions are designed such that the students are allowed to practice individually so that the basic concepts are well understood.
KMCH College of Physiotherapy – Coimbatore has well furnished seminar halls. It is equipped with audiovisual equipment like slide and film projectors, OHP's, Video projectors, TV's, VCD/DVD players, LCDs and audio systems, thus making learning more interesting and attractive. CPD is conducted on the 1st Wednesday of every month on various topics. National & International speakers are invited and the program helps to update the students in the recent trends in practice.
During the first year, all KMCH College of Physiotherapy – Coimbatore students are given training in basic computer skills (MS Office, internet etc.,) and communicative english. The college library has one of the largest collections of Physiotherapy titles in Tamilnadu, with over 2000 different titles and more than 4000 books. Every academic year, books and journals worth more than 2.5 lakhs rupees are added to the KMCH College of Physiotherapy – Coimbatore library. Internet facilities are available for the students in the college and library. The library regularly subscribes to periodicals related to Physiotherapy, Medicine, allied health sciences, and WHO publications. All reputed international and national journals are available in the library.
The college is also equipped with books for the staff reference apart from the central library. Staff Journal club is conducted every tuesday evening between 4.00 p.m to 5.00 p.m in the hospital department discussion hall. Recent updates in the therapy are discussed by one staff each week on rotational basis. Along with studies sports training is given for 2 days per week for all KMCH College of Physiotherapy – Coimbatore students. They are also taught about on field training and management of sports injuries. The students are also motivated according to their talents to practice well to take part in the intercollegiate & university sports meets. Facilities are provided for both indoor & outdoor games.
The cultural committee conducts monthly cultural programs by the KMCH College of Physiotherapy – Coimbatore students. This helps to break the study routine and gives an opportunity for students to excel in extra-curricular activities. A standing Hepatitis B immunization is in force in the college, ensuring that every students & faculty is fully immunized against Hepatitis B infection.
Hostel facilities are provided separately by the KMCH College of Physiotherapy – Coimbatore for the female and male students. The hostels are located in a separate campus about 2 Kilometres from the college. The students are transported to and from the college by a fleet of institution vehicles. College offers Bachelor, Master courses leading to meadicinal departments. A placement cell is functioning in the KMCH College of Physiotherapy – Coimbatore , which assists the students in securing job/going abroad/in higher studies. This is the only college having campus interviews and recruitment.
