Shahajiraje Mahavidyalaya - Khatav was established by Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, Khatav in June 1965. It was one of the three colleges in Satara district, and the only one and the first in the drought-prone Tahasil of Khatav & Man. There were only 4-5 high schools at that time in Khatav Tahasil. Under such circumstances, only a few students from rich families could get higher education at Karad or Satara, the cities both of which are situated at the distance of 50 kms, away from Shahajiraje Mahavidyalaya - Khatav. But the poor students were deprived of the higher education. Particularly, girl students were lamentably deprived of higher education as their parents were not mentally prepared to send them to outstation colleges. Their poverty also did not permit them to do so. As a result, the parents of girls from this region were compelled to get them married at early stage, which was nothing but complete mental harassment of the girl learners.

Shahajiraje Mahavidyalaya - Khatav is situated on Satara- Pandharpur road, 44 Kms away to the east of Satara and it is quite adjoining to the village Khatav on its 19.35 acres plot. It offers all modern amenities needed for all-round development of student’s personality.
Shahajiraje Mahavidyalaya - Khatav provides instruction to the students for three years integrated course in Arts, Commerce and Science.

Shahajiraje Mahavidyalaya - Khatav library started from the very modest beginning of the college in the year 1965, the year the college established. Since then books have been regularly added and today we have near about 34000 books, which includes Reference books, Texts, various types of Encyclopedias and Dictionaries. Today we have separate & specious Library building with various sections, in our college premises. The brief report that follows an attempt to trace the growth of our library & present the various facilities offered to our readers.
Shahajiraje Mahavidyalaya - Khatav Library has well planed separate building measuring 2280 sq. ft. Area. The various sections of our Library are as follows:- Main stack room, Students Reading room, Study section for staff members, Issuing section, Periodical section, Librarian & Acquisition section, News paper section.
Shahajiraje Mahavidyalaya - Khatav has established competitive Examination and Business Guidance Department. The department by offering guidance pertaining to preparation for facing various competitive examinations and performing private enterprising activities has provided number of placement opportunities to the degree holder students of college. It also approaches to various institutions and companies for organizing campus interviews.
