Government Degree College Bhadarwah is located in an aesthetically gratifying lush green valley of Bhadarwah, dotted with sparkling streams, fertile and ideal for teaching/learning with a considerable background of academic excellence. The area of Bhadarwah is culturally rich and known for its hospitality.
Government Degree College Bhadarwah was established in the year 1955 when Mr. Bakshi Ghulam Mohammed, the then Prime Minister of the J&K State laid the foundation of the College. The College was started with few subjects of Science and Arts. It got recognized by the U.G.C in August 1955 under section 2F & 12B of U.G.C Act, when U.G.C itself was established. Initially the college started with 52 students on its roll and now its strength has risen to 1200.
The Government Degree College Bhadarwah is managed by the department of Higher Education, Govt of J&K. At present the College is imparting education in the subjects like Sciences, Arts, Commerce, Economics, Computer Sciences, Electronics and Literature. Apart from this the College has been upgraded in the year 2004 to level of P.G and is offering Master Degree in Chemistry and Urdu.
The Government Degree College Bhadarwah is situated in the lap of the Himalayas in a beautiful cup shaped valley of Bhadarwah surrounded on one side by Kaplas and on the other side by Ashapati Mountains- a tall range separating this beautiful valley from District Chamba of Himachal Pardesh. The College is spread over an area of 61.6 kanals with lush green lawns.
The Government Degree College Bhadarwah has well equipped laboratories of Computer Science, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Physics, Geography and Electronics with spacious classrooms, a Central library with 40,000 books including some rare collections and a multipurpose hall. Besides this, the College is equipped with latest teaching audio visual aids, state of the art information technology labs with all the gadgets, EDUSAT lab- A Government of India initiative for imparting trainings through satellite transmission. The college has one mini stadium and another playground. There are two hostels one for boys and one for girls.

Its natural beauty is enchanting, which has been the envy of the rulers in the past.In 1948, with the reorganisation of Udhampur district, it got its present administrative dispensation as a tehsil of the newly-created Doda district. Apart from an enviable background, Bhadarwah has a rich and varied cultural heritage. It is also a major religious centre. It offers many hill prigimages, including the famous Kailash Yatra, and has important fairs.
The Government Degree College Bhadarwah library has a collection of over 40,000 books pertaining to the varied range of subject being offered in the college. The library facilities are upgraded every year in terms of making available latest titles on all the subjects taught in the college. The library subscribes to as many as 26 magazines, newspaper and journals relating to topics of general nature and specialized fields of sciences.
Government Degree College Bhadarwah also maintains a textbook section (book bank) from which students can borrow textbooks over a longer period. The day functioning of the library is taken care by library staff. Automation of the library is in progress, which will help in smooth and efficient functioning of library. Books will be issued to the students on production of the library borrower's card which is issued from the librarian to a bonafide student at the start of academic session after submitting the admission form. In order to avoid any misuse of the card a student should keep it in safe and report to the librarian in case of lost/misplaced. A duplicate card will be issued at the payment of Rs 50/- after due verification. The damaged card can be replaced by surrender against a payment of Rs 20/-.
