Model Institute of Education and Research-MIER has been recognized by the J&K Government and is permanently affiliated to the University of Jammu. Also recognized by University Grants Commission under Section 2(f) and 12 B of the UGC Act. Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) as a centre offering academic courses on rehabilitation with a focus on mental retardation. It is the first college in private sector in Jammu Province to impart instruction in B.Ed. course to the prospective teachers.
The Model Institute of Education and Research-MIER has been developed over an area of 2.25 acres and is conveniently located in the heart of the city on the B.C. Road which joins with the National Highway connecting the city of Jammu with the Kashmir region. The campus is situated at a distance of 0.5 km from the City Bus Stand and 7 kms from the Railway Station and Airport.
Model Institute of Education and Research-MIER, which has the proud distinction of being the first B.Ed college in the private sector in Jammu Province, was established in the year 1981 under Model Institute of Education and Research (MIER), an Autonomous, Non-Profit Making, Non-Governmental Organization devoted to the promotion of education, (general, technical and professional), research, training, social welfare and new technologies according to the best emerging trends.
The Model Institute of Education and Research-MIER has been offering teacher education programmes for over 25 years now and has trained nearly 5000 trained teacher who are spread across the country doing excellent jobs in the field of education as Nation Builders. In view of excellent staff and physical facilities, well equipped and fully automated library, provision for extracurricular activities, a rich tradition of rigorous curricular transaction, ICT being a thrust area, a 10+2 Experimental School attached to the College of Education and above all a rich tradition of Research activities the college is one of the reputed institutions in Northern India and students seek admission in this College as their first priority.
Mission of Model Institute of Education and Research-MIER is to ensure that Institute and its associated centres/departments function as leading institutions for preparing high quality specialists and professionals in the field of education and allied areas by providing facilities and institutional environment congruent with global trends based on excellence, experimentation, research, self-reliance, collaboration, extension and service to the society.
The Model Institute of Education and Research-MIER has two fully automated spacious libraries, one each for the B.Ed. and M.Ed. programmes with latest fixtures, furniture and having a collection of over 16300 books and subscribing to around 80 Journals and Magazines. It is one of the best libraries in the region with a seating capacity for 80 students. Besides books on research, reference and course books for B.Ed, books on computers and technology, books for M.Ed and books on Special Education are also available in sufficient numbers. Some Research papers, dissertations/thesis, bound journals (back dated) are also available for reference. The Model Institute of Education and Research-MIER library is also a member of DELNET Network for online access to books and journals. A fully-computerized extension counter of the Punjab National Bank operates from the college campus for the benefit of the students. ATM cards are also issued to all account holders at the extension counter.
The Model Institute of Education and Research-MIER has its own hostel for girl students in the college premises. For more details and availability of seats,would-be hostelers/boarders are advised to meet the Counsellor/Warden of the hostel. They are further advised to familiarize themselves with the latest position in respect of hostel dues and other regulations in force. At the end of the session, the trainee will be required to produce NOC and clear all hostel dues.
The Model Institute of Education and Research-MIER has facilities for games namely badminton, volleyball, handball, basketball, table tennis and kho kho for the students. Inter class tournaments are held throughout the year. A tennis court has also been laid out. A common room for boys and girls is available with facilities for indoor games like table tennis, carom, chess etc. The Model Institute of Education and Research-MIER College of Education provides First Aid medical facilities to the students and staff. A Part-time Doctor and whole time Medical Assistant have been engaged for the purpose. Network with Medical Institutions has been established for routine check-up and emergency treatment of students.
Model Institute of Education and Research-MIER has recently launched placement services for the benefit of the teacher trainees. Through these services the teacher trainees would be able to get suitable placement in schools and other educational enterprises. A database of schools and colleges has been developed and contact with such institutions has been established so that requirement of teachers can be received from time to time and students are informed accordingly. The placement cell will also undertake personality development programmes, help sharpen the interview skills, provide support for language development and enhance the ICT skills of prospective teachers.
