Government Polytechnic for Women Kandaghat is the only College for women of the state of Himachal Pradesh established in 1984. The main stress is to provide our society with quality of technical education so that it can centribute for the development of industrial requirement of the northern region. The Polytechnic has undergone a massive modernization and computerization under the just concluded World Bank assisted project for technician education. All courses are approved by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). The H.P.Takniki Shiksha Board, Dharmshala is the examination conducting body and Polytechnic Admission Test (PAT) for admission.
Government Polytechnic for Women is situated on NH-22 (Shimla-Kalka highway) and 30 KM from Shimla and 90 KM from Chandigarh. The Institute can also reach by weekly Delhi-Shimla flight as well as through narrow gauge run Kalka-Shimla train connected to Delhi-Kalka Rajdhani Express.
The Government Polytechnic for Women is spread over a land of 6.50-acres and we take pride in stating that multistoried buildings which have been constructed for constituting spacious and ventilated lecture halls, well equipped labs and workshops. The lust green campus and trees on the sides of our thoroughfare lend an enchanting view to the onlookers.
Library is the most important section of every educational institute. Government Polytechnic for Women Library is fully computerized and equipped with the large and good collection of books and also gives the facility of the book bank. Institutional Library is having books related to all the courses offered by our polytechnic and also of other subjects which are financed by the World Bank and other State Funds. Apart from the books our library has magazines, journals and other current study materials like Video Cassettes, CD-ROMs are also available for the readers or users.
Hostel facilities are the important part of any Institute. Hostels facilities are availabe in the Government Polytechnic for Women. We have three hostels (one underconstruction) in our Polytechnic and they are: Sarojini-90 seater hostel, Renuka-60 seater hostel, under construction- 60 seater hostel 1.51 crore will be spent for new hostel, Sarojani Hostel, Renuka Hostel.
The Institute has its own co-operative mess for both the hostels which is maintained and organized by girl’s students under the guidance of hostel incharge. There are 8 workers in mess, who are paid by the students 100 Rs each month. These are fixed charges that every student has to pay, and other charges depend on how much diets they have taken during a particular month. Usually it comes around Rs.10 per diet. Every student has to deposit her mess bill till 10th of every month. The day scholars are also allowed to take their lunch in hostel mess subject to the prior information, students visitors are also allowed to take food on same charges .Faculty and staff is allowed to get food at Rs. 15 per diet.
Government Polytechnic for Women have own Fitting Lab, Sheet Metal shop, Carpentary Lab, Welding Lab and Machine Lab for the practice of the students. Besides of it so many facilities are provided by the college such as Institution bus and Mahindera Jeep for transportation, Medical facilities in each department and hostels available, UCO Bank extension centre services available in the institution, Govt. Post office services available at the doorstep and Internet facilities available to the students and the staff and so more.
Diploma in Computer Engineering, Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering and diploma in Pharmacy such type of courses offered by the college.
