Sree Chaitanya Mahavidyalaya - North 24 Parganas (formerly Sree Chaitanya College of Commerce) was established in 1965. Located in a semi-urban area, this college chiefly caters to the need of students hailing from economically weaker and underprivileged section of the society. The motivating spirit of the founders was the felt need of providing higher education to the people of this area. The burgeoning exigency commingled with a cherished dream of disseminating education was the shaping spirit behind the idea and thus this institution came into being.
Sree Chaitanya Mahavidyalaya - North 24 Parganas is situated at P.O. : Prafulla Nagar - Habra, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. The college has begun its dream odyssey with an express aim to disseminate higher education among the disadvantaged rural and semi- urban students who hail chiefly from economically backward echelon of society. Apart from imparting curricular education , our college endeavours its level best to instill value added education and ideals which profess to create a positive social attitude among the pupils. The college is committed to make responsible citizens of the society out of its most precious possession – the students.
Sree Chaitanya Mahavidyalaya - North 24 Parganas offers B.Com ( Honours and General ) and B.Sc. Honours and General courses in Food and Nutrition and B.A. ( General ) with Bengali , English and Physical Education and also offers career oriented courses . The University Grants Commission also recognized the college under section 12B and 2F.
Sree Chaitanya Mahavidyalaya - North 24 Parganas has a good library with impressive collection of more than 30 ,000 reference and textbooks , from which all students can take a set of books at a time and can retain them as per rules and regulations of the library upto the end of the final examination . Honours students are supplied with almost all prescribed textbooks. Moreover , students are allowed the facilities of using the reference books etc. in the reading room during the college hours . An extended building of the library has been constructed above the auditorium and it has been shifted . Dr. Ranjit Panja , former Member of Parliament of Barasat Lok Sabha Constituency had kindly granted Rs.3.66 lacs for this purpose , under the MP LAD SCHEME. The process of E – catalouging of the books and journals of the library is in the point of near completion.
Keeping in pace with the changing scenario Sree Chaitanya Mahavidyalaya - North 24 Parganas has installed 5 computers to enable the students to keep a tab on the modern Information Technology and to make them computer savvy. Moreover , this computer laboratory also meets the curricular need of practical orientation of the students . The process has been started to impact IT training here by the competent teachers. The computer laboratory also has internet facility and this render access to the domain of limitless knowledge.
As the B.Sc. course in (Honours and General) has been introduced in the course curricula , Sree Chaitanya Mahavidyalaya - North 24 Parganas has kick-started to construct a perfectly equipped laboratory for the purpose of teachingthe students with the practical nuances of the subjects. But it requires hefty funding to build a fully equipped laboratory . Therefore our institution moves with a steady aspiration to make the construction of a completely capable laboratory a success which definitely cater to the requirement of the students pursuing the B.Sc. course in (Honours and General) course.
There is a two storied boy’s hostel in Sree Chaitanya Mahavidyalaya - North 24 Parganas campus, which caters to the need of the male students hailing from remote areas. At present the hostel has 19 rooms, 1 kitchen and 5 toilets.The number of the inmates is 10. The hostel provides food, drinking water, electricity and furnished rooms for its inmates.Two whole time staff is entrusted with the job of providing basic services to the boarders of the hostel. The college has placed a proposal for fund to the UGC in constructing a girl’s hostel.
Sree Chaitanya Mahavidyalaya - North 24 Parganas marvelously maintains a spacious seminar room , which is airy and full of light.This room is well resourced with the equipments of a finely preserved seminar room like white boards , a podium and a large dais. This room can easily accommodate at least two hundred people. Any seminars , conference, symposium or large meeting ( e.g. regularly organized parent – teacher meeting ) can be conducted here effortlessly.
Sree Chaitanya Mahavidyalaya - North 24 Parganas can boast of a gymnasium. A well maintained gymnasium in the college provides the facility to work out for the students and the staff alike . In the gymnasium in the college, with the state of the art facilities the students and staff can work out . Moreover the gymnasium facilitates the learning of the students of B.Sc. class who have to study Physical Education as their combination subject . Our college is proud of an auditorium which is acoustically built with a sitting arrangement of 500 people. Organising of seminars , symposia or any cultural programme will now be a hassle free affair.
