Smt Veeramma Gangasiri College for Women – Gulbarga was established in 1965, with a view to impart education to the women of this backward region. The great visionary Late Shri. Mahadevappa Rampure, was a man with a mission, he had a great foresight and worked with great missionary zeal whole of his life.

Smt Veeramma Gangasiri College for Women – Gulbarga initially was housed in Nagareshwar Bala Vikash Mandir, with 33 students a 9 faculty members. Young girls, married women, young mothers got admissions especially the young mothers with their infants found it difficult to attend the classes. Our senior colleagues took care of the infants turn wise, so that the young mothers could study without any tensions. Building up a women's college in those days was not a easy task. Virtually the staff went house to house and convinced the parents about the importance of education to girl students. Education is a process of transmission of culture – more than mere art, music or literature. It is a total way of life. Today, thousands of students are pursuing their education. Education is the assimilation of tradition and intellectual superiority which plays a very important role in the maintenance of the rich tradition, heritage of the Nation and offers equal opportunities to all. Smt Veeramma Gangasiri College for Women – Gulbarga is the first college of its kind in the entire region of North Karnataka and second college in the entire state of Karnataka.
Smt Veeramma Gangasiri College for Women – Gulbarga has been identified as the Lead College by the Government of Karnatka , for Total Quality Management in Higher Education, in the year 2004-2005 onwards. In addition to regular BA and B.Sc course , new courses have been introduced as independent undergraduate courses in – Home Science, Microbiology , Biotechnology, Clinical and Dietetics with 100% central assistance under UGC vocationalizaiton of First Degree Examination . The whole thrust is on the overall development of the skill and competency of the students along with their studies in different faculties.
Smt Veeramma Gangasiri College for Women – Gulbarga has 54 permanent staff 14 management staff and 19 part time lecturers. There are 14 Doctorates and 20 M.Phils and 8 to 10 members are still pursuing their P.hd Degree.One of the aims and objective of education is to cultivate the faculty of memory, the reservoir of knowledge is tapped at the library of the institution. Library has a separate building furnished with comfortable chairs and tables situated at the main entrance of Smt Veeramma Gangasiri College for Women – Gulbarga campus. There is a separate room for the members of staff with facilities and a separate furnished chamber for the librarian. There are 36x7 steel cupboard with glass doors to accommodate the books. At present the total number of books in the library are 28,605. General budget books are 24,799 and the UGC and book bank scheme with minority group are 4,306 books.
There are two N.S.S. units in Smt Veeramma Gangasiri College for Women – Gulbarga the NSS activities are spread out through the year. The regular activities, like Shramdhana, pulse polio, Blood donation camp, creating awareness about precaution of diseases, maintenance of cleanliness and hygein arranging of annual camps of 10 days at some adopted village are carried out. NCC is a systemized force which caters overall personality enhancement, a continuous process working towards the goals, to develop a system for conscious, consistent sustenance in the cadets. The Motto of NCC is “Unity and Discipline” and strives to be and is one of the greatest cohesive forces of our nation, bringing together the youth of different religious and moulding them into unified, secular and disciplined citizen.
To create a healthy and sportive atmosphere, Games and Sports are essential. Students participate in all local arranged sports activities, Dasara Sports, Athletic Meet and other sports activities. Every year Smt Veeramma Gangasiri College for Women – Gulbarga has more than 6 students as University Blues in Chess, Table Tennis, Kabaddi and Basket ball. The college provides one boiled egg, a glass of milk and track suits, blazers and special coaching in academics is arranged.

It is a unique feature of our college to participate in the Inter Class, Inter-collegiate Competitions conducted by us and other institutions and Universities. Right from the beginning, our students, in the pursuit of strengthing the Indian heritage are actively involved in various programmes like – Folk song, Folk Dance, Culture Traditional customs, verities of dramas, classical songs, percussion, songs, classical dance, rangoli, literary competitions, debate, elocation, essay, extempore, spot poetry, imaginary story writing, something out of nothing, flower arrangements, cookery, salad arrangements are some of the competitions which are conducted. In almost every competition, our students bagg the championship award and have brought great credit to the institution.
